Move More. Waste Less.

Bringing more people into motion and keeping raw materials in circulation for longer. That is the idea behind Move more. Waste less. At W&H, we believe that sport, play, and circularity can reinforce each other. That’s why we don’t just look at how we get people moving, but also at the materials used to create sport and play environments.

Within our range, we make this mission concrete. From sports surfaces and dugouts to calisthenics and play equipment: we offer various solutions in which recycled raw materials are used again. This gives existing materials a new purpose and creates environments that invite people to sport, play, and move.

With Move more. Waste less. we link the value of movement to the preservation of raw materials. Not only for today, but also for future generations.

Our Fellows in Haarlem shows it. On behalf of SRO Kennemerland, worn-out artificial turf here didn’t get a new destination in just one spot, but throughout the entire site. On the modular sports surface and on the calisthenics Monkeybar, people train with material from old fields. The QR-FIT bench turns a moment of rest into a moment of movement. The climate-adaptive bicycle shelter lets rainwater sink into the ground. This is how one sports park brings movement and the preservation of raw materials together.

At OBS West in Capelle aan den IJssel, too, play, movement, and circularity come together. The schoolyard is equipped with play equipment made from more than 90% recycled plastic. Children can play and move here every day, while the materials used get a second life. In addition, the school uses the circular layout as a starting point to make students aware of responsible material use. This way, the schoolyard contributes not only to movement and fun in playing, but also to education and awareness.

Two different environments in which our mission becomes visible: getting more people moving and keeping raw materials in circulation for longer. Move More. Waste Less.

From worn-out artificial turf to new sports products

Artificial turf fields reach the end of their service life every year. Although the field can no longer be used for sport, the materials may still contain valuable raw materials for new applications.

Via GreenMatter, recycled artificial turf gets a new destination. The material is processed into raw materials for, among other things, sports surfaces, dugouts, calisthenics setups, and other parts of sports facilities.

This creates a special connection: materials that have been part of a sports field for years are used again to make sport and movement possible.

This is a concrete example of Move more. Waste less. We keep creating sport and movement places, while existing raw materials gain value again.

KEEP DEVELOPING TOGETHER

Move more. Waste less. is not an end goal, but a direction in which we want to improve continuously. That’s why we challenge our partners and suppliers to take one more step every day. From using materials more consciously to developing new, forward-thinking sports and play products.

By continuing to look together for new possibilities, we want to give circularity an increasingly prominent role within our range. That way, we keep working on solutions that get people moving and at the same time contribute to preserving valuable raw materials.

Properties

More people moving

We create sports and play environments that invite people of all ages to move. From sports parks and schoolyards to public places to get moving.

Reusing raw materials

We give existing materials a new purpose. For example, worn-out artificial turf fields and used plastics are processed into raw materials for new products.

Circular choices in the range

Within various product categories, we offer circular solutions. This allows clients to consciously choose products with recycled materials when furnishing sports and play environments.

Quality and service life

We look beyond purchasing a product. Quality, maintenance, and a long service life are important so that products can be used for as long as possible.

Attention to certification

We work with products in which quality and material use are supported by relevant standards and certifications. Think of the Blauer Engel certification for many of our play equipment.

Collaborating on circularity

Circularity requires collaboration throughout the chain. With producers, suppliers, and clients, we are working on ways to apply recycled raw materials again.

On the way to 2030 and 2050

The Netherlands has a clear ambition: by 2050, our economy must be fully circular. Raw materials then will no longer be lost, but will remain in use again and again. As a next step, the Netherlands wants to use half as many new raw materials by 2030, such as metals, minerals, and fossil raw materials.

That requires a different way of thinking and designing, also in sport and play. For W&H, Move More. Waste Less. is our contribution to that challenge. We don’t wait until rules force us—we take steps now.

2030: half fewer new raw materials

On the way to 2030, we increase the share of circular solutions in our range. Worn-out artificial turf fields get a new life via GreenMatter in sports surfaces, dugouts, and calisthenics setups. Many of our play equipment pieces are made from recycled plastic from household packaging. With our Take Back & Recycle service, we bring used products back for reuse, renovation, or recycling.

2050: fully circular

By 2050, we want every sports and play environment we design to fit within a fully circular economy. That means products that last a long time, parts that can be replaced easily, and materials that become raw material again after use. That’s how we close the loop: from sports field to new product, and back again.

Move more. Waste less.

Circular sports setup for sports facilities

When furnishing a sports facility, not only functionality, safety, and ease of use play a role. The origin of materials and the possibilities for reuse are becoming increasingly important as well. That’s why, with circular sports furnishing, we look at how sports amenities can contribute to preserving valuable raw materials.

Within our range, we offer various circular sports products, including dugouts, sports surfaces, and calisthenics equipment. Here, recycled materials are used, such as raw materials originating from worn-out artificial turf fields. This allows municipalities, sports clubs, and other clients to include circularity when building, renovating, or expanding their sports facility.

An artificial turf field that is due for replacement still contains valuable materials. By recycling it, the raw materials can be used again in products for sports facilities and public space.

Via GreenMatter, recycled artificial turf gets a new destination in, among other things, dugouts, modular sports surfaces, calisthenics equipment, and outdoor furniture. Materials that were previously part of a sports field are thus used again for sport and movement.

These applications show how, with Move more. Waste less., we create the link between stimulating movement and keeping raw materials in circulation for longer.

Modular sports floors offer various possibilities for arranging sports halls, school playgrounds, sports parks, and public sports facilities. Our range also includes circular sports floors that incorporate recycled artificial grass from worn-out sports fields.

The GreenMatter modular sports floor is made up of 50% recycled artificial grass and is suitable for various sports applications. Thanks to its modular design, sports locations can be set up flexibly, and individual floor sections can be replaced.

This is how we combine functional sports floors with the reuse of raw materials and give worn-out artificial grass a new application.

A circular sports park consists of more than just a playing field. The facilities around the field also offer opportunities to apply recycled materials. Think of dugouts, calisthenics setups, benches, bicycle parking systems, and other elements of the outdoor area.

With our circular solutions, we can reuse raw materials in different places within a sports park. For example, planks made of recycled artificial grass are used in dugouts, and recycled plastic components can be used for movement equipment.

By taking material use, service life, and future applications into account when setting up sports parks, circularity gets a concrete place within the sports environment.

Even when setting up play areas, Move more. Waste less. comes back. With our play equipment, we encourage children to play and move, while at the same time paying attention to the raw materials from which these devices are made.

Many play equipment from Westfalia is manufactured from recycled plastic, sourced from, among other things, used household packaging. A large part of the range carries the independent Blauer Engel eco-label. This label sets strict requirements for the environmental properties of products. The high share of recycled material is independently verified.

This is how we combine encouraging children to move with responsible material use and the reuse of existing raw materials.

Circularity goes further than processing recycled materials into new products. The service life, maintenance, and possibilities for reuse after the usage phase also play an important role.

That’s why, at W&H, we look at the full life cycle of sports and play products. Where possible, we focus on products with a long service life, replaceable components, and possibilities for reuse or recycling.

With, among other things, circular alternatives and our Take Back & Recycle service, we are working on ways to keep materials valuable for longer. Step by step, this helps us make the transition to a more circular layout of sports and play environments.
