More about athletics

An athletics facility consists of many different components. Throwing events, track events and jumping events each require specific materials, safe placement and good alignment with the facility. Think of discus cages, hammer/discus throw cages, shot put rings, high jump mats, pole vault mats, starting blocks, hurdles, take-off boards and insertion pits.

Since 2002, W&H has specialised in athletics materials and in recent years has been able to supply many athletics facilities in the Netherlands with materials. The products that are suitable for competitive use meet the requirements of the Athletics Federation and are certified in accordance with the requirements of World Athletics. In addition to supply, we can also provide advice on new-build and renovation plans. In doing so, we look at disciplines, safety, routing, placement, in-situ materials and future use.

Are you working on the layout or renovation of an athletics facility? Then it is important to determine per discipline which materials are needed. An athletics track requires not only sports equipment, but also facilities that can be properly installed and used safely.

W&H supplies athletics materials for clubs, municipalities, schools, sports parks and professional facilities. We are happy to think along about the right products, placement and alignment with the requirements of the sport.

For discus throwing and shot put/discus throw, strong and safe throwing provisions are needed. Think of discus cages, shot put/discus cages, protective cages, discus rings and inlay rings. These materials must be placed precisely, because safety and durability for throwing events play a major role.

We supply materials for discus throwing and shot put/discus throw and work with experienced installation partners for installation. This way, throwing provisions are carefully aligned with the facility and the intended use.

For shot put, among other things, shot put rings, throw boards, inlay rings and additional provisions are needed. The correct placement and finishing are important for safe use and a good competition situation.

Depending on the level of the facility, it is possible to look at materials for training, competition use or competitive use. We are happy to advise on the right implementation and application.

For high jump, landing mats, high jump standards, bars, covers and, if necessary, covers/overhangs are important components. The landing mat must match the intensity of use, the level of the athletes and the available space within the facility.

W&H supplies high jump materials for athletics clubs, schools and sports facilities. In doing so, we look at safety, ease of use, storage, protection and lifespan.

Pole vault requires specific materials, such as pole vault landing mats, standards, insertion pits, covers and overhangs. Because this discipline places high demands on safety and placement, good alignment with the facility is important.

We think along about the layout of pole vault facilities, including material selection, installation, protection and practical use.

Running track numbers/events consist of different disciplines, such as sprint, middle-distance, long-distance, hurdle running, steeplechase and relay. For this, materials are needed such as starting blocks, competition hurdles, steeple hurdles, water pits, transport carts and other track provisions.

Within this category, innovative applications can also be included, such as an electronic hare for training and competitions. W&H supplies materials that contribute to a professional and practical layout of the athletics track.

For long jump and triple jump, among other things, take-off boards, scratch boards, sand pit covers and additional in-situ materials are needed. Proper placement of the take-off board and neat finishing of the jumping pit are important for training, competition use and safety.

We supply materials for long jump and triple jump and can think along about the layout of the approach, take-off zone and jumping pit.

In addition to materials for the well-known athletics disciplines, W&H also supplies other athletics materials and facilities. Think of components for track layout, transport, protection, storage, covering and maintenance.

These materials help create a complete athletics facility that can be managed practically and remains suitable for intensive use.

For competitive use, it is important that athletics materials meet the right requirements. Materials used in official competitions must align with the guidelines of the Athletics Federation and World Athletics.

We supply athletics materials that are suitable for competitive use and meet the relevant requirements. This way, clubs and facilities can rely on materials that fit training, competitions and official events.

At athletics facilities, in-situ materials are at least as important as separate sports equipment. Think of curb edging/retaining strips, drainage channels, insertion pits, rings, take-off boards and other facilities that form part of the track or sports area.

Good preparation prevents problems during construction or renovation. W&H can think along about the materials required and the correct application within the project.
