Bringing GreenMatter to Radboud University Nijmegen

For Radboud University Nijmegen, sustainability is an important priority for both the short and long term. Marco van Beuningen, as Coordinator Facilities Management Sport Facilities, is happy to think along about how we can jointly create a sustainable sports sector.

That’s how he came up with the idea to have mobile seating benches made from recycled artificial turf for the tennis courts. After some design sketches, the mobile seating benches were ultimately delivered to the tennis courts at the Radboud Sports Centre, and we were able to add a great new product to the GreenMatter delivery programme. The mobile seating benches are easy to move and are fitted with steel strips (to prevent sagging). The minimum expected technical service life is 50 years.

In addition to the 12 tennis courts, the university also has, among other things, two football fields, which are equipped with GreenMatter side boards and brush mats. By purchasing these products, Radboud University also takes responsibility regarding its duty of care.

After sports, the students, employees, members of the public and companies that use the sports facilities can sit down at the picnic tables on the terrace with 2 benches made from recycled artificial turf.

The Radboud Sports Centre is a great example of how different sustainable solutions can be used around a university. All products are UV-resistant and, at the end of their service life, 100% recyclable.
