Bench
Curious about the possibilities in the field of benches? On this page you’ll find all the information about our circular bench made from recycled artificial turf. A product resulting from our GreenMatter initiative. In recent years, there has been a lot of attention on the artificial turf waste mountain. That’s why we, together with Lankhorst Engineerd Products, decided to start this initiative, so that products can be manufactured from the materials of worn-out artificial turf fields. The first successes were achieved with edging boards. There are now, however, already twenty product variants, all made from recycled artificial turf, available. One of them is the GreenMatter bench. A product that can make a wonderful contribution to a greener streetscape in municipalities. After reading this page, you know everything about our circular bench. Not interested in circular products? In addition to the GreenMatter bench, we also supply plastic benches.

Transparent processing process
Together we are responsible for the future of our earth. That requires a critical attitude when using new materials and an open mind when using circular products. With our innovative processing process, we can process old, worn-out artificial turf mats into new, circular products.
Circular
When you purchase a GreenMatter bench, a circular raw material is set in motion and you make an active contribution to reducing the artificial turf waste mountain.
Sustainable bench
The minimum expected technical service life of the GreenMatter bench is 50 years. Delivery includes a guarantee statement of raw materials and a REACH statement.
100% Recyclable
The GreenMatter benches are 100% recyclable at the end of their service life. From the raw materials, new products can be produced again.
Certified
The GreenMatter benches are provided with ISO 9001: Quality certificate, ISO 14001: Environment certificate and OHSAS 18001: Safety certificate. In addition, the products are provided with the MORE label and GreenMatter joined the ESTC EMEA Synthetic Turf Council in 2020.
Award winner
In 2020, GreenMatter received the Plastics Recycling Award Europe in the category ‘Building & Construction Product of the Year’.

Frequently asked questions
GreenMatter is our initiative together with Lankhorst Engineerd Products. After we joined forces, an edging board made of recycled artificial turf was soon created. A real success. After that, the GreenMatter delivery program was expanded with, among other things, benches, picnic sets and planters.
The GreenMatter benches have a length of 180 cm. If desired, products can also be made to measure. Feasibility is, however, strongly dependent on the desired quantities, the type of product, etc. In any case, we are happy to think along so we can further expand our delivery program!
GreenMatter works every day to reduce the artificial turf waste mountain. In the past decades, enormous numbers of artificial turf fields have been collected without anything being done with the usable materials. Thanks to the products from GreenMatter, a circular raw material is set in motion. Recycling artificial turf is an important step. However, it is even more important that these raw materials are actually used during the production of new products.
For any processing work and for assembling our GreenMatter products, we use the services of Empatec. Empatec is a social workplace for people with a distance to the labour market.
Worldwide, there are more than 35,000 artificial turf fields with infill that will eventually become worn out and need to be replaced. An average artificial turf football field has an area of about 7,600 m² and weighs about 250 to 350 tons. That means that when replacing, a considerable amount of material becomes available that can be used again.
With 260 edging boards, 10 picnic sets with four benches and 6 picnic sets with two benches, the amount of material from one complete artificial turf field can be processed into new products. In this way, the material from a worn-out artificial turf field gets a new application, and the loop of raw materials is further closed.
No rights can be derived from this calculation example. It is intended purely as an indication.
Going green matters!
In 1976, the first artificial turf field was installed. A revolutionary moment that never paused to consider the consequences we experience today. After all, it took more than two more decades before artificial turf was installed on a large scale. Again, without thinking about processing when the artificial turf needs to be replaced. When the problem was finally raised, it turned out that different parties wanted to profit from it. This was done by accepting high fees for artificial turf fields without processing them. Fortunately, a national discussion arose a few years ago, which led to new initiatives in the field of recycling. In the meantime, artificial turf fibers are recycled according to the standard. In addition, GreenMatter tries to make clients aware of the fact that a circular raw material flow needs to be set in motion. If recycled artificial turf is not used as a raw material, there is still waste

Sustainability and social involvement are in our DNA and you can find them back in our initiatives and our delivery program. In 2019, we started GreenMatter together with Lankhorst Engineerded Products. With this, we set out to reduce the artificial turf waste mountain. This is done by developing and producing products made from recycled artificial turf for use on or around sports facilities. After its use, the GreenMatter products are 100% recyclable. This creates a closed loop. In the context of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we use a social workplace in the manufacture of the GreenMatter products.
