3x3 basketball courts in different settings

3x3 basketball has different rules from traditional basketball. As the name suggests, two teams of three players play against each other. Games are played on a half court with one basket.

3x3 basketball is inspired by various forms of streetball, a variant of basketball that originated on playgrounds in the United States. Since 2021, 3x3 basketball has even been an Olympic sport. With more than 250 million players worldwide, it is the largest urban team sport in the world.

3X3 Unites

We recently started a partnership with 3X3 Unites, which plays a major role in the development of 3x3 basketball. Among other things, they work on building 3x3 basketball courts (where our partnership comes in), provide leadership training for young people and support municipalities in making structural use of the courts.

Together with 3X3 Unites, we help Dutch municipalities develop public spaces and the social domain by offering 3x3 basketball. The combination of 3X3 Unites' leadership training for young people from the local community and our high-quality 3x3 courts has already proven successful in several places across the country.

Complete fit-out of 3x3 basketball courts

The modular sports floors we supply are multifunctional and have several advantages. The outdoor sports floors have drainage, so rainwater runs off well. The floor provides the right cushioning and shock absorption, which helps prevent injuries. The floors are available in various colours and can carry logos.

Besides the modular sports floor, we can also give a court a circular finish with GreenMatter outdoor furniture. A functional addition is the SportBox XS: a storage unit that can be placed in various locations. Users register via an app, which lets them reserve and open the box to use, in this case, a basketball.

3x3 basketball court locations

A 3x3 basketball court can be placed in many locations. Because it is only a half court, there is almost always a suitable plot available. Where there is more space, two 3x3 courts are sometimes chosen, separate or joined. In Amsterdam we have now built several 3x3 courts, and every project is different. The courts come in different colours in public space (Nelson Mandela Park), at the public sports park Zeeburgereiland and at football club Zeeburgia.

Assen and Zwolle also recently got a 3x3 basketball court. In Assen, the municipality chose a court in a public park (Anne Frank Park), and the Landstede Sports Centre in Zwolle now lets students and athletes play 3x3 basketball outside on its square.

The Municipality of Gooise Meren even joined two 3x3 courts together in a residential area, so games can be played on two baskets. The whole court can also be used for regular 5x5 basketball. Passionate basketball coach and 3X3 Unites 3x3 leader Ti Vargas Grin championed its construction. Through a crowdfunding campaign, Ti also made it possible to place GreenMatter benches around the court.

3x3 basketball is hard to ignore. Thanks to the game's accessibility and small number of players, its popularity keeps growing, which is also reflected in the number of new 3x3 courts. With options in location, colour and branding, there is a suitable solution for every situation.
