Last Monday saw the official opening of Esther Vergeer's Cruyff Court. As a young girl, Esther Vergeer visited UMC Utrecht several times. Now her own Cruyff Court is located on the UMC Utrecht grounds.

Esther, Paralympic wheelchair tennis champion, founder of the Esther Vergeer Foundation and Chef de Mission of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, has been a Cruyff Foundation ambassador for years. She is proud of her own Court.

"It's great that a Cruyff Court bearing my name has now opened. I hope lots of children will play sport and have fun here. The Cruyff Foundation has supported the work of my own Foundation for years, and I'm very grateful for that."

UMC Utrecht and nearby institutions such as the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital and the Prof. Fritz Redlschool, a school supporting pupils with complex behavioural needs, can use the Court. The Court has our Ultimate Plus modular sports floor as its surface, making it wheelchair-accessible. It is multifunctional: football, basketball, tennis and volleyball can all be played, so as many children as possible can use it.
