Pickleball is on the rise in the Netherlands, but what is it exactly?
The racket sport pickleball combines badminton, table tennis and tennis. Here is how it works and how to set up a court.
Pickleball probably doesn't sound very familiar to most people yet, because it is a relatively new sport in the Netherlands. Pickleball is played with a paddle and combines badminton, table tennis and tennis. The court is three times smaller than a tennis court and the ball is slower than a tennis ball. A pickleball paddle is similar to a padel racket: it has no strings, and its structure makes the ball easier to play. You don't need any racket sport experience, which makes it a sport for everyone.
Pickleball rules
Pickleball is played 1 against 1 or 2 against 2. Scoring works differently from other racket sports: you can only score when serving. On the serve the ball must bounce, and the first return after the serve must also bounce first. The serve is played diagonally from the right-hand side. After that, the ball may bounce only once and, in doubles, may be hit by one of the team players. From the third shot onwards, volleys are allowed. To win a game you need 11 points, with a lead of at least 2 points.
Setting up a pickleball court
Now that pickleball is growing and demand is increasing, we have added several pickleball products to our range. We offer various modular sports floors, the perfect surface for pickleball. We also supply fixed and mobile pickleball installations to set up your court. As a finishing touch, there is the SportBox XS, which you can place next to the court to store all equipment safely and activate the court. After all, few people own a pickleball paddle yet, although many would like to try the sport.
